WINTER PROJECTS
MOSQUITO TRAILHEAD
AMPL is excited to have helped the Bridger-Teton National Forest and Wyoming State Trails in renovating the Mosquito Creek Trailhead in the late fall of 2022. The new trailhead lead to easier parking, safer snowmobile loading/unloading, and allowed for more convenient trailer access. AMPL has continued to work with the Bridger-Teton to top dress the lot with gravel, landscape the perimeter, and install informational signs.
GROOMING
AMPL worked with Wyoming State Trails to implement a grooming plan for Mosquito Creek Road. Historically, the moguls on this popular access to the Palisades would quickly become unbearable by mid-season. During the winter the trail in groomed every 2 weeks, providing smooth riding on Mosquito Creek Road and Cottonwood Road.
AMPL also worked with the Jackson Hole Snowdevils to groom Brush Creek in March of 2023. We will be working with land managers and Wyoming State Trails to come up with a consistent grooming schedule for future winters!
FRIENDLY REMINDER…Please buy your trail stickers! The money goes back to improving access for all of us!
BEACON CHECKERS
In October of 2021, AMPL partnered with Teton County Search and Rescue to purchase 10 avalanche beacon check stations, which were installed around Teton County in December of 2022. These signs serve as a reminder to backcountry users that they will be in or around avalanche terrain and should be carrying essential rescue gear, and that its in proper, working order. When skiers, snowboarders, or snowmobilers ride slowly by these devices, the checker detects whether or not their transceiver is sending a signal or not. Look for these beacon check stations at trailheads on Teton Pass, Fall Creek Road, Togwotee Pass, and on the Wyoming/Idaho state line at Darby Canyon and Spring Creek. Two more beacon check stations will be installed for the ‘24/’25 winter season bringing the total number to 12.
Please, if you notice a sign needing maintenance or attention, send us an email: connect@teamampl.org
