AMPL Hires New Executive Director
For the last year, AMPL had been searching for a new Executive Director. We were looking for a specific applicant: one who was local, passionate about many forms of recreation, educated about land-use issues, and who could speak to both recreation and conservation-minded people. Now, the search is over! The summer, our board officially offered the job to Will Mook. Will jumped at this amazing opportunity to protect access to our public lands and started in this position in mid-September.
Here is a little about Will:
Will Mook was born and raised on an oyster farm in Maine, where he developed his love for the outdoors. He earned a Bachelor of Science from St. Lawrence University where he studied Conservation Biology and Geology. Will moved to Jackson, WY in 2012 to work as a backcountry snowmobile guide at Togwotee Mountain Lodge in the winters, and a fly fishing guide in the summers. After guiding at Togwotee for 7 years, in 2017 he co-founded The Mountain Riding Lab, a company that teaches the AIARE motorized curriculum in Wyoming, Idaho and Montana. Will believes one of our country’s greatest accomplishments was the creation of public lands, and that we need to preserve and protect them for future generations. Will, like many in our community, sees the importance of multi-use access as well as Wilderness, and believes in the need to balance both so that all have a place to pursue their hobbies and passions. He is an avid snowmobiler, snowboarder, dirt biker, mountain biker, bow hunter, and fly fisherman, and believes that everyone needs equal access to the outdoors for healthy living. Will now lives in Victor, ID with his wife, Hannah, 9-month-old daughter, Abby, and two hunting labs, Rangeley and Clyde, and is an active team member on Teton County Idaho Search and Rescue.
